NEWR – Frequently asked questions
What is a Roundup?
A woodcarvers roundup is a gathering of woodcarvers. The purpose of NEWR, started in 2003, is to teach and share the many aspects of woodcarving. Its not a show or judging competition, it a learning and sharing event. Numerous instructors are brought together for the event.
What can I learn at NEWR?
We have classes in all genre of woodcarving, beginner, relief, caricature, figure carving and chip carving.
Do I have to pre-register?
No there is no pre-registration. Each participant is required to sign a waiver and they will receive a name tag. You are required to wear that name tag throughout the event. Sign up for classes is done in mass on Sunday evening. There are usually open spots in many of the different classes that you may sign up for during the event. For camp sites or lodging at the camp ground call them directly.
What are the costs?
Your costs are limited to materials for the class. This cost can vary, a lot of factors can play into calculating those costs; purchase of wood, roughouts, shipping charges etc.
Am I limited on the number of classes I take?
No, but we ask that you limit yourself to taking only one class with an instructor, unless there are openings. You may also be put on a wait list “last call” for openings with that instructor.
What tools will I need?
This is class dependent. Some instructors suggest specific tools. Check the website for tool needs. Many carvings can be done with just a knife.
